| Mr. Omar A. Hallaj has recently joined the team of the Syria Trust for Development as a Chief Executive Officer. The Syria Trust for Development is a non-governmental development organisation, established in 2007. Under the umbrella of the Trust there are four projects: FIRDOS, MASSAR, SHABAB and RAWAFED. These projects have been operating for few years and have accomplished several development achievements in the fields in which the Trust is active namely Rural Development, Education, Culture and Heritage.
Mr. Hallaj expressed his willingness to use his expertise in working with local communities and development agencies operating in Syria as well as doing his best to serve the objectives of the Trust which seeks to inspire individuals and communities in Syria and to play a crucial role in bringing out their potentials and shaping their future.
It is worth mentioning that Mr. Hallaj, who was born in 1966, holds a Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of Texas, Austin and is experienced in the field of development both inside and outside Syria. His efforts in development have been recognised by international organisations such as the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) as he was awarded the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in its 2007 cycle. This Award is granted by the AKDN every three years to Islamic architecture projects that develop new criteria of quality and encourage architectural concepts that take into account the needs of the local communities in the area of design, social housing, community development, restoration and environment-friendly architecture.
Mr. Hallaj will commence in his position as CEO in February 2010.
