Rawafed believes that culture, arts and heritage in their wide variety of forms, are a key element within the socio-economic development of a country. Syria is rich with practical, physical and intellectual cultural resources, and Rawafed’s objectives are to use these resources to play a key role in the development of Syria’s cultural sector.
The overall objectives of Rawafed are:
- Working with cultural institutions and operators to facilitate an environment conducive to creativity and to support them in their development, build their capacities and empower them to act independently.
- Working within communities, and with organizations and individuals to develop strong and effective working relationships with audiences and participants involved in the cultural scene.
- Developing further engagement and involvement with the cultural sector to ensure that it operates more effectively within society.
- Building partnerships, and working with a range of local, regional and international partners to develop new approaches and create new opportunities within the sector.
- Working with professionals and policy makers to develop and implement cultural policies and practices to facilitate the development of the sector.
Rawafed works to achieve these objectives through initiatives that use a range of components including capacity building, networking and partnerships, research and advocacy. These initiatives have different approaches, but work together sharing internal knowledge, resources and experience, as well as developing techniques and frameworks that can be adapted and applied to many situations.
