The MIC project has been launched in FIRDOS villages in order to: (1) provide computer courses at a symbolic price in the underprivileged areas of rural communities, (2) to promote IT awareness and literacy within rural Syria (3) and to develop communities skills in computer applications. Three MICs operate in 39 FIRDOS villages in Aleppo, Hama, Idleb and Homs. During 2002-2007, 3.890 community members learned basic IT skills through FIRDOS IT training courses. The results of the project evaluation in 2005 highlighted the following results:
- All trainees who attended Mobile Information Centers (MICs) courses gained more confidence in using computers (according to the project evaluation survey).
- More than 11 % of the trainees found out that the IT training helps them to find a job.
- More than 16% of the trainees have improved their exams’ results.
- More than 56% of the trainees bought new computers after joining the training courses.
